Let Everything That Has Breath Praise the Lord

My day started with a dead battery in my vehicle. I called into work and let them know of my plight. I waited for my son to wake up to take me into town for a new battery. As we are taking the dead battery out, the terminal on the positive side breaks. Get to the store, they have 1 battery that fits and 1 package of terminals. Get home, try installing battery and new terminals. Now I am not by any means a mechanic and the wires that connect to the terminal are too short to reach the battery, which is maybe 1/16" longer than the old one. We finally get it all situated and now it is time to start the vehicle.

Nothing. Try again. Nothing. Try a third time and it makes a noise indicating it wants to start. Try again and it starts. Happiness ensues.

Now I would love to tell you that I handled this with smiles and happiness, but I did not. I felt the fear creep in as I was missing a day of work and we depend on my income to pay our bills. I feel the despair as it is so cold outside and we are trying to connect terminals. I feel the anger as I am told to just stand there and look pretty. I feel the disappointment boiling up in me as it does not start.

Then I remember God is in control and He knew what was going to happen. Now I cannot know for sure but I think about these things. What did the Lord save me from today? What was the lesson for me in this inconvenience? I do not know the answers but I know the One who does. His name is Jesus. With my down time I was able to spend more time in His word. I was able to spend time with friends that needed me today. I was able to praise Him in the good and in the bad. He never left me. He dealt with me gently throughout the ordeal. I just needed to be warmed up to Him being right there. Just like the cold alternator that had no juice from the battery.

Psalm 150:6 "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!"
